Ah, I see.

I am using the 2.6.32 kernel and CONFIG_MEDIA_CONTROLLER
may have been introduced in between.

Well, the 2.6.32 code originally comes from the BeagleBoard XM which
has a camera interface and a working camera. So it *should* work...

Yes, if the sync frequency is wrong, it reports a select() timeout
and the image frame is filled with green.

But with correct sync prescaler settings this works (there is still
some shift in the hsync/porch, i.e. a green stripe is on the left
or right (don't remember).

What I also had tried is to enable the test pattern in the
camera (there is a bit which is supposed to control it), but
the snow remained.

So it could also be something completely different (e.g. bad video
encoding format or clock edge).
