I very much think along the lines which Rainer Blome has posted.

For me I my urge is to own a device which is 
  - as free as possible from backdoors from the hardware side, but also 
  - runs software that allows me to communicate 
    with the android / iphone owners, which 100% of my friends are and
  - has a decend battery life.

Regarding the software side I was wondering if anyone has tried to run/port
plasma-mobile (which is partly ubuntu-phone) to the GTA04 (plasma-mobile.org)
Maybe this could be a way forward as plasma-mobile seems to be intersting to 
many kde-developers and offers a shiny looking modern interface which would 
not hurt for advertising GTA04 either.
