I had a similar problem a few months ago, and someone on the list
advised me to power off and remove the battery for a few minutes - I
believe because that allows the modem to completely reset.

That worked for me, so maybe you can try that.  (Sorry if you already
have - I haven't checked back carefully through this thread.  Also sorry
for forgetting who it was who gave me that good advice!)
