Ok.

Well, our ALSA extensions (headset jack etc.) are broken. Therefore I have patches some driver to return -EINVAL. This makes amixer initialisation fail during boot.

Yes, that is important. If USB networking works it makes it easier to replace the kernel on the SD card and reboot - without fiddling around with battery and SD cards.
