Hi,
i think you need battery only to boot it. Then you can remove it and it should 
keep working just on charger.

You can have rescue system in NAND and run main system from SD card. You can 
boot to NAND easily without display - e.g. with qi using the AUX to skip SD 
card or via NOR uboot menu.
