There may be another issue where I don't know if it is still in the
3.7/8 kernels but it was that the 2.6.32 kernel re-initializes the DSS
subsystem including PLLs and clock dividers. So there was always
some flicker even if u-boot did not turn off the LCD for a moment and
the kernel reenables it. I think there was also a kernel config option
that is intended to modify the kernel code to simply use the already
initialized DSS but it did fail completely.
