Indeed. It appears that the kernel does not even try any activities
on the MMC2/SDIO interface. This could be an broken connection 
between the CPU and the interface chip or the interface and the
WiFi chip (although it has been tested ok: http://www.gta04.org/serial.php).

So I have no better idea than to do a warranty return :(
