There is no visible defect. A lot of force is required to open the sd slot.
If I remember correctly there was also some ugly noise the first time.
Nevertheless I was one or two times able to  boot from sd by firmly
pressing on it. Since I'm aware of no guarantee and the device works except
of this I didn't asked for help before. But since I had no much time and
also the previous version was used like a brick I did not do anything to
change the situation ...

Installing via serial line is not yet directly supported, right?
