There is a fix for the /root/gps-demo script so that it now
* correctly initializes the VSIM regulator to power up the internal/external antenna
* resets the GPS chip through a GPIO if it is not sending NMEA records
* initialize gpsd on /dev/ttyO1
* launch TangoGPS (FoxtrotGPS)
Here is the script for those who are looking for sample code:

It should also be available through apt-get update/upgrade (if the goldelico server is still included in /etc/apt/sources.list).
Nikolaus
PS: this most likely does not work with the 3.x kernels since they handle GPS and GPIOs differently
