I would like to find out what is missing as for all the years i've been
building rootfs I never had that issue.

My "setup" is just a debian debootstrap rootfs that I extract the
modules into.

If you dont need to do `modprobe g_ether` then it is probably included
in your /etc/modules or udev finds it for you?

It should be listed in `lsmod` because it is built as a module if you
didnt change the kernel config. Is it listed there?

Do you have this output in your dmesg?
