It is not the only one.

Some time ago we did not have *all* patches based on mainline
but did have our own letux-base branch. This made it impossible
to git bisect between mainline versions.

Then I wrote a complex script using git blame to find all updates
even going back to 3.x but automatically split into separate branches
and rebase things on top of mainline.

This algorithm sometimes added "wrong" commit messages and I have
not yet consolidated those branches.

But the merge result of everything was the same as before.
