I didn't find time for further testing, but would this be an option?

I.e. how big is your SD card image as .tbz? And would your upload internet
access permit this (my server has enough network capacity to receive files).

This could rule out or identify if we have a compiler or user-space issue.
Or if hardware problems make things break.
