Interesting!

My view is:

* people don't buy an OS: they buy a machine that helps them to solve problems and stay in connection. They also buy application software. And they want that their next computer can use the existing application software and documents. This keeps people locked in an ecosystem. They break out only if the operator of the eco system fails to serve them. Or if a different eco system reduces the barrier to switch.

* Linux Desktop Distros suffer from the "my fork is better than yours" syndrom. IMHO, there are more forks than users :) This is also addressed in the newsletter.

So it is IMHO not a marketing problem (which assumes the benefits of Linux are not well enough explained), but a structural and a cultural problem. This can't be solved by Marketing IMHO.

Well, yes. 90% of all phones are already Linux based :) If you read "Linux" as "Kernel". So it is a full success in the Android eco system. And as said above, almost nobody knows and cares about, as long as the ecosystem is kept running.

This also made our Letux work go into a niche. A niche where you can play around, where you are the owner of your device and not dependent on someone keeping the ecosystem running. The latter is a great thing but also our achilles heel.

BR,
Nikolaus
