I conclude that this means that your tar-image comes without (default)
kernel. Ok, I see, there's more time needed than expected...
But before I do this work I have a question:
In the past conversation it had been mentioned that currently no themes
are available. But if I understood correctly, you "only" reworked the
build sequence. So how could this be possible? I can remember that after
changing the build sequence to use hardflow toolchain, Finxi theme was
disfunctional for some time and required Radek to do some magic in order
to get it running again in a later release. But never the theme was lost
completely.
I'm asking because without Finxi theme I rather will keep going on with
the pretty and stable v55 for now. I would enjoy to support you again with
some testing and I'm also willing to risc some regressions, as long as a)
I can be sure that after replacing the old v55 SD card my system behaves
like usual again and b) I can do the testing with Finxi theme... ;-)
Best regards
Sven

Hi Sven,

Hello Nikolaus,
meanwhile I gave it a trial, but unfortunately it doesn't boot. Since I
haven't created a new SD card for my GTA04A4 anymore since several years,
also haven't done any configuration for it in this time, thus forgot many
details and also didn't want to spend too much time, but wanted to avoid
everything that could brick my well working system, I thought I could be
very clever by just going the following simple way:
1.) I created a 1:1 clone of the working SD card which I had inside the
phone. It showed to be QtMoko v55. In my cupboard I found an SD card with
QtMoko v57 which was also working, but I even don't know anymore why I
kept v55 in my phone and not the v57. So I decided to use the v55 for
cloning.
2.) I verified that the clone was really functional. Indeed it came up
with QtMoko v55 perfectly working.
3.) I erased the old rootfs by executing "sudo mkfs.ext4 -L rootfs
/dev/sde2".
Well, this also deletes the kernel modules. And an uImage in /boot.
Then mounted the new and empty fs and untared your new QtMoko rootfs to
there.
After putting the SD card into the phone and powering it on I get the
conversant penguin of your bootloader. But then I only get a completely
white screen together with power LED blinking slowly
red-green-yellow-black and bootbutton LED blinking fast the same sequence
red-green-yellow-black.
This means that boot.scr did not find a bootable kernel.
In the past conversation it had been mentioned that the new image will not
boot from SD card. How can this be fixed? Pressing the boot button doesn't
show any effect in my case.
Furthermore: Might it be that it's mandatory to use the current
bootloader? (Which would mean that I need to spend much more time in order
to get familiar again with all the details that might follow as
consequence.)
Well, a current boot loader might be required and can be generally
recommended.
Please note that you might not be able to boot the NAND system any more,
depending
on how old the original boot loader is.
Step 1: upgrade boot loader
* use latest makesd
* DEV=/dev/sdb makesd gta04 debian -- (assuming you don't have a GTA04A5
which would need "gta04one")
* boot with this SD card (with pressing the AUX button)
* screen should turn red when flashing the boot loader
Step 2: install qtmoko wheezy (the jessie variant has a significant bug we
have not yet found the solution)
* use makesd again
* DEV=/dev/sdb makesd qtmoko -r

Hello Nikolaus,
ok, got it! Once again thank you very much!
But I need to beg you for some time. On the one hand I'm very excited to
check the new verison after such a long time, on the other hand I already
have been very busy at the moment before your announcement reached me. Now
I need to see what will when be possible to be done...
No problem... We did dream for such a long time that some days make no
difference...

Hello Nicolaus,
very good news!

look for *-qtmoko.tbz
I can find:
- 0180222-wheezy-7.11-armhf-qtmoko.tbz 2018-02-22 01:48 174M
- latest-armhf-qtmoko.tbz 2018-02-21 19:03 198M

- 20180113-wheezy-7.11-armhf-qtmoko.tbz 2018-01-13 12:35 174M
Which one is recommended?
The
latest-armhf-qtmoko.tbz
which is the same as
20180221-jessie-8.10-armhf-qtmoko.tbz
The wheezy variant doesn't support modern kernels well.
You know: I like QtMoko because of its Finxi theme and no other! Beyond
that I widely leave it up on you how to go best into the future... ;-)
So maybe you can help to make the Finxi theme work again...
I am not sure if themes already work.
BR,
Nikolaus

Hi,
I am happy to announce that after years of
abandonment and obsolescence, QtMoko is back in
maintained mode.
After several failed attempts, we now have a git
tree and a build system where we can apply
modifications and accept patches. And we
need testers :)
Currently, we have a Wheezy and a Jessie based
(different git branches) and both run on the
GTA04(A3, A4, A5) with latest Letux kernels.
Basically QtMoko also starts and runs on the Pyra,
but there is nothing to see on the display yet.
It simply remains black...
Here are the key resources:
Project Home: http://projects.goldelico.com/p/gta04-qtmoko/ - also
for reporting issues
Git: http://git.goldelico.com/?p=gta04-qtmoko.git;a=heads
Downloads:
http://download.goldelico.com/letux-debian-rootfs/?C=M;O=D - look for
*-qtmoko.tbz
Install on µSD: DEV=/dev/sdb ./makesd qtmoko - to install a Jessie
based system
Letux-Debian: apt-get install letux-qtmoko - to install if you have
installed a different Letux system
Here are screen photos of QtMoko/Jessie/Kernel-4.15.2
running on a GTA04:

Some things are not yet working and missing and
some Apps crash after starting, but we are just at
the beginning to be able to fix things.
Of course our little team can't do all that alone.
We need you and the broader community to help with
coding, testing or simply donations if you appreciate
our effort:

BR and thanks,
Nikolaus
