Well, it should momentarily turn on the WiFi to check if WiFi is available and
then turn it off. At least that is what it did with the 3.7 and 3.12 kernel.

I am not sure if it still does - the whole SDIO stack has been turned upside
down several times since 3.12. And Device Tree also has a difficult to understand
influence.

Well, it indicates that the driver's remove function isn't coded well enough.

Most drivers assume they are compiled into the kernel and are never removed...
