I don't know, works quite reliable for me.

Doesn't hurt, I'm using it for my N900 work since quite some time.

enable omapdrm in kernel config, disable omapfb (or make sure the
correct module gets loaded @ boot), install xorg driver (see above),
make sure xorg.conf does not specify omapfb driver (omapdrm driver
will be autoloaded, so you can just comment out omapfb stuff).
