[Gta04-owner] GTA04 kernel - current and future

Hi,
Linus has released 3.14-rc1 tonight and I have already merged this with our kernel [1].
Unfortunately it runs into a kernel panic in some musb interrupt - but what else can we expect from a rc1?
Anyways, I want to share the plan we have for the future, so that you know in advance:
1. we will fix the rc1 issues
2. we will upgrade the kernel to be device tree based (there was major work for OMAP and the display subsystem between 3.13 and 3.14)
3. this needs a (minor) modification of U-Boot so that it locates and loads the correct device tree from the boot partition
4. then we have to reintegrate/fix some special drivers that are not yet converted to device tree (e.g. Camera, touch screen) so that the kernel again supports ~100% of the hardware that is available in a GTA04
5. use this as the basis for our replicant system
6. if all that is done, I hope we will see much less changes in fundamental ARM/OMAP kernel code so that we can better track down the power management issues - and don't risk they are broken by changes by others in the code from mainline
7. we will continue to upstream our patches so that we come more and more closer to mainline
So stay tuned. The GTA04 platform will have long-term mainline kernel support...
BR,
Nikolaus
