[Gta04-owner] HDQ can't detect battery presence?

Quesion to the protocol specialists:

I have discovered that the bq27000 driver always reports values. If the battery is removed while powering through USB there are timeouts and garbage values:

Since I am not familiar with hdq/1-wire protocol I wonder why
the value "present" is always "1".

Isn't there some checksum or communication link presence detection?
