Well, the Debian/LXDE image takes approx. 70% of the 512 MB NAND and 35% of 1 GB NAND. Including manuals etc. I.e. there has been no need for optimization.

On the other end I remember having a minimal Debian on some MIPS machine (Letux 400) with just 5 MByte. Well, it did not have X11 and any other fancy stuff. But networking and busybox command line.

So you could give it a try to beat these figures.
