On a *GB card, I used 2GB per distro, and leftovers for init, swap and media-
things/backup:
root at tp:/home/wbk/embedded# fdisk -l /dev/sdb
Disk /dev/sdb: 8270 MB, 8270118912 bytes
255 heads, 62 sectors/track, 1021 cylinders, total 16152576 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00000000
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 * 128 131071 65472 c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/sdb2 131072 4325375 2097152 83 Linux
/dev/sdb3 4325376 8519679 2097152 83 Linux
/dev/sdb4 8519680 16152575 3816448 5 Extended
/dev/sdb5 8521728 12716031 2097152 83 Linux
/dev/sdb6 12718080 13766655 524288 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sdb7 13768704 16152575 1191936 b W95 FAT32
I think 2GB is much more than needed. Most space is needed, as said before,
for media files, map images and backup/"non-volatile" (that in my case is just
over 1GB). I have not tried yet if it _needs_ to be FAT for QtMoko in order to
be able to build a database on it. I'd prefer an FS that supports more
features.
Best regards,
