Couldn't agree more.
Have you ever tried pushing changes upstream? It requires real effort.
And this is as it should be, it discourages bad code (though bad code still
gets in :-( )
Some stuff has gone upstream (e.g. the LED driver, various bugfixes etc).
Some stuff isn't ready to go upstream (the virtual-DTR stuff for example, I
want to really use it for a while first. Also the codec and display drivers
need a lot of work).
Some stuff will never go upstream - they aren't accepting 'board' files any
more. Eventually all the content of the board file will need to be coded as
a device-tree file. One of the reasons for making the 3G wake GPIO into an
input button was that it would be easier to describe using device-tree.
My goal is to get it all upstream into mainline., but that doesn't happen by
itself :-(
