They are not different.
Here my result (both with the hw-validation kernel):

GTA04A4:
gta04:~# cat /proc/cpuinfo
Processor	: ARMv7 Processor rev 2 (v7l)
BogoMIPS	: 482.11
Features	: swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp thumbee neon vfpv3
CPU implementer	: 0x41
CPU architecture: 7
CPU variant	: 0x3
CPU part	: 0xc08
CPU revision	: 2

Hardware	: GTA04
Revision	: 0020
Serial : 0000000000000000
Die-ID : 47b200029ff800000163810c17020004

GTA04A3:
gta04:~# cat /proc/cpuinfo
Processor	: ARMv7 Processor rev 2 (v7l)
BogoMIPS	: 502.07
Features	: swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp thumbee neon vfpv3
CPU implementer	: 0x41
CPU architecture: 7
CPU variant	: 0x3
CPU part	: 0xc08
CPU revision	: 2

Hardware	: GTA04
Revision	: 0020
Serial : 0000000000000000
Die-ID : 003400029ff800000163810c1800f00c

Note that some A3 boards don't have all components (e.g. sensors)
installed. There was also a plan for underpopulated GTA04A4 boards.
So you can't find out the exact hardware feature availability from the
board revision number.

IMHO you should try to detect features presented by the kernel e.g. the
WWAN-enable gpio in /sys.

So where do you think you need to distinguish between both? HW vs.
SW routing? This should be detectable by the availability of some
ALSA control to switch between both modes.
