Because of the size/looks/cost perspective of the cellphone 
manufacturers, most of the antennas aren't even close to optimal. For 
this reason sometimes even a piece of wire can give you a fair 
connectivity. Also an old radio antenna might work really well even its 
not meant for those frequencies. If you are only interested in hacking 
3g data connection. You can hack an old WIFI antenna to your GTA04, 
since those are meant for 2,4GHz and should work ok with 2,1GHz as well.

However, that way you might boost your signal beyond what's legal in 
your country, so don't over do this unless being a criminal is fine by 
you ;).
