In the fablab in Aachen, I also had the opportunity to lasercut some
acrylic to build cases. You can laser rounded corners, but the edge of
the cut will always be almost rectangular, just shy of "sharp".
Additionally, thin acrylic is prone to breaking, thicker will be
heavier. Then, you'll have to either glue it (certainly unwanted for
GTA04) or press it into a sandwich with screws like on the pictures. I
can't imagine wanting to have that in my pants.

Then again, acrylic can be bent into non-plane shapes with a hot air
gun, so with a jig, one would be able to produce much more complicated
designs.
