[Gta04-owner] Finger-friendly UI experiment

Hi Neal,

It's an interesting thought. I have a 770 and N800, so I'm familiar with Hildon and I had noticed that it's all nicely packaged in Debian now - kudos to the long suffering Maemo/Meego community for that!

Also it's designed for a landscape UI, and I personally would prefer a landscape UI, as I've mentioned before.

But on the other hand:

- so far I haven't managed to bring X up in landscape (and I don't believe anyone else has either)

- with the GTA04 screen, my feeling is that the Hildon UI elements might take up too much screen space, leaving less for the application

- in any case, the point for me is to have _any_ working finger-friendly UI, so as to enable more experimentation and usage without a stylus.

Therefore I think I probably won't try Hildon just yet. I'm more interested next in getting things like GPS, Bluetooth and Wifi nicely integrated and working.

      Neil

(Apologies for top posting - it's a restriction of my current mobile device.)

That looks great. Have you looked at Hildon, which is used on Nokia's
N900? It's all free software and has a better solution, I think, for
task switching: instead of using a hardware key, there is a button on
the top left of the screen that activates the task manager. (Nokia's
N9 uses swipe down from the top of the screen to activate the task
manager, however, I find that I too frequently inadvertently switch to
it.)

:) Neal
