Hi all,
we have packed the latest kernel and U-Boot
in a debian repository:
http://download.goldelico.com/gta04/debian/
This step should simplify future upgrades (to a more
modern kernel). Thanks to Debian and their great
package management system!
There are two branches: unstable and stable.
unstable is a little more untested than stable
but currently they are the same.
The unstable package may also lag behind the
unstable raw filea you can download from:
http://download.goldelico.com/gta04/unstable/
This is sort of a snapshot of the working source
code tree plus results made each time we compile
a kernel. The unstable debian package build process
is triggered manually as well as making a stable
package.
How to use it:
1. if you have a fresh SD card, please install
the first image through the makesd script as
usual.
2. add the repository to /etc/apt/sources.list
(will become part of the first image soon)
3. apt-get update
4. apt-get install kernel-image-gta04
apt-get install u-boot-image-gta04
Please note that the script makes a backup
of the previous kernel so if something goes
wrong, just do an apt-get remove kernel-image-gta04
Another note: we do not yet have a signed
key so that apt-get will complain about an
unverified package source.
If the device does no longer boot, open the
FAT partition on a host computer and
move all files with a .bak suffix back to
the version without. You should then be
back to the previous kernel.
A final note: the server still has a slow network
connection, so pleas be patient. We are working
on a mirror server that will finally get the domain
redirected to.
Nikolaus
