Yet another approach (maybe the smartest):

make sure BBCHEN (charge enable) is *NOT* getting set during boot.
During test, makes sure BBCHEN has been 0 to start with, set BBSEL=11, enable 
BBCHEN and instantly start logging the delta-v/delta-t for the next maybe 5 or 
10s. The curve tells all you want to know about state and health of bupbat 
polyacene cap.
