This company makes cases for various phones and tablets. They are

I wonder if we could replace the front and back plates of the
current case with trim rings that were only half as tall as the
current plates, then sandwich the result in a custom variant of the
aluminum case. There would still be the matter of the earpeice, but
maybe it could be soldered?<br>

I don't know anything about CAD, or I would try to mock something
up.<br>
