here is a preliminary minimal rootfs - just debootstrapped and chroot-configured (e.g. for USB/SSH access and mounting NAND):

http://download.goldelico.com/gta04/debian/20130516-wheezy-minimal.tbz

But you can easily bootstrap your own rootfs from Squeeze by using a script like this on the GTA04:

http://git.goldelico.com/?p=gta04-rootfs.git;a=blob;f=debian/config/root/bootstrap;h=751bf39f10dfd68fe59070f9ad013531e03e0416;hb=HEAD

Then pack everything in the /debian* directory for a new rootfs.

The .tbz mentioned above is just the result of running this script.

Maybe you are missing the kernel modules when using an arbitrary image.
