I don't know how you are doing your testing, but you are wrong here. For
Huawei CFUN=5 means something totally different. And it does not switch
to GSM only. It will actually fully disconnect you from any network.

Just as a hint, Huawei uses AT^SYSCFG for RAT and band selection.
