Great! I have not had time for any testing yet, other than creating the file
and seeing "feedback" on the command line:

root at neo:~# cat /etc/udev/rules.d/hso.rules
SUBSYSTEM=="tty", KERNEL=="ttyHS*", ATTR{hsotype}=="?*",
SYMLINK+="ttyHS_$attr{hsotype}"  OPTIONS+="string_escape=replace"

root at neo:~# ls -latrh /dev/ttyHS*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root         6 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS_Control -> ttyHS4
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 249, 4 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS4
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root         6 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS_Diagnostic -> ttyHS0
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 249, 0 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root         6 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS_Modem -> ttyHS5
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 249, 5 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS5
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root         6 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS_GPS_Control -> ttyHS2
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 249, 2 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root         6 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS_Application -> ttyHS3
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 249, 3 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS3
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root         6 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS_GPS -> ttyHS1
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 249, 1 Feb 17 00:17 /dev/ttyHS1

Wifi indeed "just works" :-) Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Boudewijn

PS: my mail client is locking now and again, I hadn't noticed my previous mail
was truncated. I intended to ask if there's any logging that helps in
troubleshooting the modem issue. If that's still the case, let me know!
