It is. I've never experienced these errors. Which builder do you use?
pbuilder or cowbuilder? I use cowbuilder. It may make a difference :/

I don't know a simple way. I've set up a couple of pbuilder hooks (work
with cowbuilder as well) to enter a shell inside the chroot when the
build fails. This way I can experiment fixes without running the whole
build again. But at the end I have to run it one more time to have the
