I gave a talk about the Openphoenux project at the "Mobile FOSS" mini-conf at
linux.conf.au yesterday. If you are interested you can find the slides in my
blog post: http://blog.neil.brown.name/2013/01/linux-conf-au-open-phoenux/

A lot of the other talks in the miniconf were related to the Serval project:
   http://www.servalproject.org/

Their main technology is mesh networking and store-and-forward file transfer
over an intermittent mesh. Their focus is to provide technology that can
help out in disaster recovery.

They would really like some hackable hardware, particularly if it had good
wifi support and - even better - some way to plug on a daughter board with an
arbitrary air-interface so that in different countries or different
situations, different radio solutions could be tried. Their idea was an
arduino glued onto the back of a "commercial" phone somehow, but thought that
the GTA04 might be a way forward...
